Tanner Buchanan the actor playing Robby Keene is one of the major star cast in the show Cobra kai is a karate student at Miyagi-Do finds himself working out at his quarantine home gym. The concept or standard of TV shows are surging very quickly and in order to keep up with the escalating standards, the actors of the show especially a fighting one as the Cobra Kai are require to fulfill the physical demands of the character. So what these actors got to do is train them like one, the one that they are portraying.
According to an interview, actor Tanner Buchanan works out in his home gym for the quarantine, his main focus is to train his body for the fighting scenes in the show. His workout is completely functional, strength base with some cardio elements attached to it.
Tanner's entire workout consists of supersets, meaning you will do 2 exercises back to back without any rest in between exercises.
The idea behind superset is to increase the "Time Under Tension" on the muscle which will give us an opportunity to maximize growth in muscle size and strength. This first exercise helps with Punches and getting strong shoulders. Because being a karate fighter you need some strength in your arms to deliver some strong punches to your opponent.
1A. Kettlebell Upright Rows - 4 sets of 10 reps
1B. Dumbbell Punches - 4 sets of 10 reps each hand
For the next exercise we're going to use some
of our legs and some of our shoulders.
It's a functional movement, if you want to lift something heavy off the ground then this exercise might come in handy to leverage your entire body.
2A. Dumbbell Thrusters - 4 sets of 10 reps
2B. Med Ball Slams - 4 sets of 10 reps
Alright, the next exercise is for all the legs—this is how you get into shape to make those massive kicks.
3A. Kettlebell Squats - 4 sets of 10 reps
3B. Round Kicks - 4 sets of 10 reps
Moving on with the fourth exercise. This is how Robby got all the strength specifically in the school fight in the when he picked Miguel up and threw him in to the lockers.
This exercise will give you some pushing strength.
4A. Dumbbell Bench Press - 4 sets of 10 reps
4B. Plate Press and Raise - 4 sets of 10 reps
We're onto our last exercise, the fifth exercise and
basically this correlates to every single fight whether it's a kick, a punch or
maybe you're taking the punch, You need a lot of stamina in order to do that over and over and over again.
So this exercise builds up your cardiovascular strength. It's basically a jumping jack with a barbell up above in your hands.
5. Barbell Jumping Jacks - 4 sets of 30 seconds
